As a child, each time I put on a pair of mary jane shoes signified a special occasion.   To me black patent leather has always been synonymous with “dressing up.” Imagine our delight when we found this chic, shiny and well-priced bag during a recent buying trip!

The new patent leather pleated satchel from Baekgaard will add just the right touch of glam.  It is roomy enough to hold all of your daily essentials and fashionable enough to take you from the office to happy hour.  The interior even features a colorful houndstooth lining.  This is a great bag.

The Patent Leather Pleated Satchel is available at write on and more.

Feathers made quite a fashion statement this year.  Plumage adorned dresses, jackets, hats and headbands flew across countless runways.

But what has us really ruffled is NEST, the latest wallcovering collection from Schumacher.  Each panel is made entirely by hand using a plethora of humanely gathered feathers.  The unique textures and elaborate patterns created by these natural feathers are strikingly handsome.

It’s amazing how a well executed presentation scheme for “blankets” can greatly add to their appeal.  These brightly colored blankets designed by Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings for Thomas Eyck are smashing in their own right, but seen draped over modern furniture pieces makes them even more desirable.   The Colour Plaids series features blankets and cushions made of merino wool and cotton. enjoy hh

Growing up we had a pair of the green Cosco car seats like the ones featured in Tina Roth Eisenberg’s {SwissMiss} living room photo {via Design*Sponge}.  It is funny to think that I sat in that type of booster seat and am alive to write about it (not that my mother’s driving was that bad!)  My brothers and I had a lot of fun with those seats, except when we got our fingers pinched in the legs.  You can still find a few on Ebay.  Ahh, memories.  enjoy hh

For the past three fall seasons we have made a bountiful collection of the Martha Stewart inspired Glittered Pumpkins. The girls always have a great time painting mini-pumpkins with glue and then going crazy with the glitter!  They love to deliver them to teachers and friends and have even mailed some to Gigi….

The hand blown glass art takes center stage in this beautifully designed room by Mary Anne Smiley.

The glass pieces reminiscent of Dale Chihuly’s work, reminded me of a gift my ever thoughtful sister gave to the girls.  The Dale Chihuly Art Kit features an interactive book that guides the reader through Chihuly’s career while making 10 “stops” to participate in fun artistic activities.

The book does a marvelous job of introducing children to the creative process by using real world examples with easily attainable objects – think marshmallows, ice cubes, play doh and fruit and vegetable stamps.  I love the idea of using a heated marshmallow to pretend to blow glass – genius! Beautiful and functional.   enjoy hh

This is a must see…

Highly acclaimed Norwegian photographer, Sølve Sundsbø has made his mark on the fashion world with his personal brand of style that incorporates many cutting edge techniques as well as pure photographic skills.

One of his latest projects, PERROQUET, featured a small, slender exotic beauty, not your typical high priced fashion model, but rather a long tailed parrot.

Comprised of 8 short films and a selection of photographs, “Sundsbø looks to this as fashion on an evolutionary scale: compared to the fast-paced, demanding nature of the fashion calendar and the many ‘looks’ each season produces, this creature’s stunning ‘outfit’ has taken centuries to develop.”

“In Parroquet, the subject matter encouraged Sundsbø to take a somewhat different approach, focusing on one specific element: the movement of the bird in flight. It was always Sundsbø’s chief intention to document the parroquet using photography and film; both mediums enabling him to steal moments that would normally be missed.”

Do take the time to view the short films and photos at SHOWstudio.  enjoy hh

Above is a small sampling of ceramic artist, Alison Swan‘s work.   These hand-built sculptural objects are formed from “thinly rolled or pinched porcelain and stoneware clays decorated with stains, oxides, slips and glazes.”   The antique like qualities and suggestion of age and wear “give rise to imagined histories” for these found shoes.  enjoy hh
